Why do I need a social media audit?
By the end of this year, it’s thought there will be three billion social media users worldwide.
Can you really be sure you’re presenting the image and message you really want?
And while some of us have had some form of online presence since before GeoCities (look it up, kids), many of us might have long-since forgotten-about accounts gathering dust on MySpace or other internet graveyards. Have you got any old, out-of-date accounts making you look bad to anyone who finds them?

It’s not just about dusting off the skeletons in our closets – we have to tell our stories online more so than in-person these days. With the pandemic, we are all spending so much more of our days online – we have to make sure our social media reflects who we are and what we want to say. Get your social media into my boot camp!
What’s more, if you’re looking for a job right now, consider that your social media presence is part of your resume. We are no longer constrained by physical paper – social media gives employers a 3D picture of a potential employee, and if you want to stand out (for the right reasons), it’s important to get your profiles in order.
There is some good news – you can hire me (click here to set up a meeting) to help give your social media a makeover, consult on your online brand social strategy and get custom solutions for your situation.
But if you want to go it alone, here are some Grade-A tips…
Consider these three tips
- Define success: What is your goal? More engagement, new clients, new job, new subscribers, loyal fans?
- Be as specific as possible with your goals: Do you want 1,000 Facebook page likes by the end of this week/month/year? Do you want 500 new newsletter subscribers? Or ten new clients by the end of the year?
- Know your audience: That will be important to decide on what social platform to focus on — millennials are all over YouTube; youngsters can’t get enough of TikTok. Your mom and dad are probably on Facebook, and so on. If you need help figuring this out, I do a lot of this work with my clients and am always happy to chat!
That’s it for this week. I hope you use this as a well-needed kick-in-the-pants to refresh your online story.
